Mystics waive Canty, sign Bobbitt
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Mystics announced today they have released starting point guard Dominique Canty and signed free agent guard Shannon Bobbitt. The move by General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey comes amid a four-game losing streak by the Mystics, who are 1-5 on the season.
Bobbitt, who won two national championships with the University of Tennessee, was selected in the second round (15th overall) of the 2008 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, where she spent two seasons before joining the Indiana Fever for the 2011 campaign. The five-foot-two guard has averaged 3.3 points and 2 assists over three years in the WNBA.
Canty, a 14 year WNBA veteran, averaged 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game in six games with the Mystics.
The Mystics will host Indiana on Friday night.
