New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Indiana Fever guard Briann January and
Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen have been named the WNBA's Eastern and
Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played between
May 26-June 1.
January paced the Fever to a pair of wins during the week while scoring 20 points in each game. She connected on all seven of her 3-point attempts and went an efficient 11-of-18 from the field overall.
January, a two-time member of the WNBA's All-Defensive Team, claimed her first career Player of the Week award.
Whalen received her sixth career Player of the Week award after guiding the defending WNBA champion Lynx to a perfect 3-0 mark.
The three-time All-WNBA First-Team selection posted 22 points and four assists in a 75-72 win over the Chicago Sky on May 26 before netting 19 points and grabbing five rebounds in an 88-72 win over the San Antonio Stars on May 30.
Whalen closed out the week by recording a 14-point, 10-assist double-double in an 87-79 win over the Stars on June 1, helping Minnesota move to 7-0 on the season.
Chicago Sky teammates Elena Delle Donne, Jessica Breland and Courtney Vandersloot joined Washington's Ivory Latta as other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week in the East, while additional candidates in the West included San Antonio's Kayla McBride and Seattle's Crystal Langhorne.
