New York, NY (Sports Network) - Riquna Williams of the Tulsa Shock has been
named the WNBA's Western Conference Player of the Week for her record-setting
performance on Sunday.

Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream earned the honor for the Eastern Conference for games played between Sept. 2-8.

Williams set a new WNBA single-season mark by pouring in 51 points in the Shock's 98-65 victory over San Antonio. The second-year guard knocked down 17- of-28 shots from the field, including an 8-of-14 success rate from 3-point range.

The effort bested the previous league record of 47 points, set by Phoenix's Diana Taurasi in 2006 and matched by Seattle's Lauren Jackson the following season.

In Tulsa's two games for the week, Williams averaged a WNBA-best 34.5 points and made all 13 of her free-throw attempts.

McCoughtry claimed the East's award for the fourth time this season after averaging 21.8 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals while leading the Dream to a 3-1 record.

Others considered for the awards were Chicago's Elena Delle Donne, Connecticut's Epiphanny Prince and Tan White, Taurasi and San Antonio's Danielle Adams.
