What franchise is going to be forever changed? And how bad to they have to bomb this year to get her?
The real question is, who won't? One out of four teams is going to be ecstatic, one (picking fourth) is going to be devastated, and the other two will make do with Elena Delle Donne and Skylar Diggins.
Tulsa can't seem to buy a break with the ping-pong balls, and probably won't again. And if New York is in the lottery, is there anywhere else that Griner could go that would help the league, and women's basketball, more?
A mock draft has LA getting the #1 pick in 2013. Does anybody know why that would be since they are a lock for the playoffs?
I'm hoping Phoenix gets the pick, as consolation for this season. They are not tanking, they are playing as hard as they can, but only two starters have played the first half - Dewanna Bonner, who was off the bench last year, and the rookie, Sammy. They lost starters Penny Taylor, Candace Dupree, Nakia Sanford, and now the accidental starter Charde Houston. When you look at the bench, you see a great team, not so much with what is on the floor.
So if LA gets Griner, it's all over for the rest of the WNBA. Do they have Tulsa's pick or something?
That mock draft just used last year's draft order, for no apparent reason. L.A. won't get the first pick, but Phoenix might -- and that would put Griner, Diana Taurasi, Penny Taylor, Candice Dupree and DeWanna Bonner on the same team.
Can you say "instant contender"?
Another point: Washington kept Trudi Lacey around after the Olympic break even though she should have been fired. Does keeping the worst coach in league history count as tanking?
