Lexie Brown: We're going to Tampa!

Each season, fullcourt asks select players to blog about their NCAA Tournament experience. This week, Maryland's Lexie Brown checks in.

I cannot even begin to describe how good it feels to be packing our bags for another trip! There are just no words to tell you how proud I am of this team and for all of us in getting back to where we think we belong.

Spokane was a really nice city, but those were some long flights!  We are so fortunate to charter and be together as a team.

I may have not had my best game Saturday vs. Duke, but as Coach B said, sometimes your shots aren’t falling. I tried to be the best teammate I could and support them for carrying us to the Elite Eight. And it felt really good to get that win over Duke of all teams!

Monday’s game was so intense. You could really tell how bad we both wanted it. I hope that came through on TV so the whole country saw it. We knew Tennessee was going to come out strong because of the way they ended their last game and they definitely did. It was such a defensive battle.

At halftime, Mincy was telling us how this was not going to be her last game. We just dug deep and made the plays we needed to make. We have so much confidence in what we do and in each other.

I actually had a second on the court after the game when it hit me that we were going back and I teared up. Climbing those ladders will never get old!

After the game, we found out our redeye flight was delayed two hours. We hung out at the arena and finally took off around 12:30 a.m. Pacific time. We landed at 8:30 a.m. and went to XFINITY Center so tired. We had already been excused from classes, so we had time to get back on east coast time.

Over the weekend, we all turned our phones in to eliminate distractions. At this point in the year, you start hearing from everyone and the sun and while we definitely appreciate the love and support, it’s important to stay focused and close to your teammates and family, not to mention distractions with social media.

I think having been to one Final Four, we know what to expect. I think last year, we were just trying to take everything in. This year, we will still enjoy every moment, but we know how everything will work and be fully prepared. There’s so many activities and fun things that you have to soak it in, but I know we will be ready to play as well!

As we’ve said all year… we’re humble and hungry and NOT DONE YET.
