Four returning gold medalists highlight the roster for the 2012 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team Trials, including 2011 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year Breanna Stewart (Cicero-North H.S. /North Syracuse, N.Y.), who will attend the University of Connecticut next fall, headline the 26 athletes who have accepted an invitation to attend the 2012 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team Trials. Invitations to attend the trials were issued by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee chaired by Sue Donohoe, executive director of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
USA Basketball announced thirty-five top prep players have accepted invitations to participate in the 2012 U17 World Championship Team Trials being held in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 17-20.
Thirteen players return from previous USA Basketball gold medal teams including 2 time gold medalist Diamond Deshields of Norcross High School (Norcross, Ga.) who played for team USA on the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship and the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.
Some camps have it and some don’t. With 52 players attending, the Nike Skills Academy camp held at Norcross High School (Georgia) on April 28-29 saw a talent collection rarely found in one gym. As it turned out, even the no-shows were a group that could compose a fine set of major division one recruits.
