Baylor leads top seeds for women's tourney

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Baylor, Stanford, Connecticut and Notre Dame earned No. 1 seeds for the women's NCAA basketball tournament, which begins Saturday at campus sites around the country.

Baylor 8th team to make season-long run at No. 1

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Baylor was a unanimous No. 1 in the Associated Press poll for the 15th straight week and became only the eighth women's team to go wire-to-wire atop the basketball rankings for the whole season.

Indiana fires women's coach Legette-Jack

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Indiana fired head women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack following a 6-24 season, saying Monday that she was "no longer in a position to turn the program around."

Most likely to succeed: 2012 Mid-major tournament wrap-up

The last of the mid-major conference tournaments wrapped up Sunday and another interesting assortment of mid-major teams have emerged to take their places on the main stage that is the NCAA Tournament. Obviously, the seeds assigned by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the match-ups between each team and its opponents and the sites at which the games will be played are all factors that will play significant roles in how each team fares. But as we await the Monday's announcement of the actual pairings, here are some of the teams to watch out for.

Green Bay downs Detroit to capture Horizon League title

Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Julie Wojta scored 29 points and Megan Lukan added a career-high 20 points as No. 10 Green Bay downed Detroit, 66-53, in the Horizon League Tournament championship game.

Delaware captures Colonial crown

Upper Marlboro, MD (Sports Network) - Elena Delle Donne scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading Delaware to a 59-43 victory over Drexel in the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association.

Sims' 26 points leads Baylor to Big 12 Championship over Texas A&M

 

“What are we going to do about Britney Griner?"  When you’re facing Baylor, this is a question you invariably have to tackle.

By the looks of today’s game between Baylor and Texas A&M, Texas A&M had that question locked down, as much as a team can. Griner, who on Friday set a Big 12 tournament single game record with 45 points against Kansas State, scored only 11 points.  She had as many fouls and turnovers as rebounds, a mere three.

No. 2 Stanford defeats Cal for Pac-12 crown

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 29 points and 12 rebounds as No. 2 Stanford defeated California, 77-62, in Saturday's Pac-12 Tournament title game.

No. 7 Delaware rolls past UNCW

Upper Marlboro, MD (Sports Network) - Two-time Colonial Athletic Association player of the year Elena Delle Donne put in another complete performance with 15 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, an assist and a steal, as No. 7 Delaware rolled past UNC-Wilmington 66-39 in a CAA Tournament semifinal.

Baylor beats Texas A&M for Big 12 crown

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Odyssey Sims had a season-high 26 points, Destiny Williams scored 12 with 11 rebounds and top-ranked Baylor cruised to a 73-50 victory over No. 22 Texas A&M in the Big 12 tournament championship game.
