DENVER – While a pair of virtual strangers are meeting in the second national semifinal game Sunday night when Baylor (38-0) and Stanford (34-1) hook up, the Big East Conference takes its 1-2 punch of familiarity west when Connecticut (33-4) and Notre Dame (34-3) hook up for the fourth time this season and eighth time in the last two in the NCAA Women’s Final Four opener at the Pepsi Center.
Oklahoma State won the postseason Women's National Invitational Tournament this afternoon with a hard-fought 75-68 victory over James Madison at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla. It is the first WNIT championship for Oklahoma State, and just the second for any Big-12 team since Kansas State took home the hardware in 2006.
Though OSU is now 11-4 in WNIT play, prior to this season they had advanced no farther than the quarterfinals (2001). Last season ended in the WNIT second round.
DENVER, CO - On Friday, USA Basketball announced the the first 11 members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Team. The group is arguably the most talented collection of athletes assembled by the United States and is a heavy favorite to win a fifth consecutive gold medal. The group inlcudes three athlets who are two-time Olympic gold medalists in Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings and Diana Taurasi. Four others also earned gold in Beijing in Swin Cash, Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and Candace Parker.
