Des Moines Regional: Top five seeds advance to second round

The weekend's results in six of the eight of the sub-regional pods feeding into the Des Moines Regional results followed the NCAA  seeding line. 

Baylor (1), Tennessee (2), Delaware (3), Georgia Tech (4), Georgetown (5) and De Paul (7) all held serve. Sunday's two relatively modest upsets swept the Big Ten's representatives out of the Des Moines bracket, providing further evidence that the Big Ten was neither as strong nor as deep this year as the Selection Committee seemed to think.

11th-seed Kansas upends 6th-seed Nebraska

Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - Chelsea Gardner had a double-double with career highs of 15 points and 16 rebounds as the 11th-seeded Kansas Jayhawks stunned the sixth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers 57-49 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Jack Stephens Center.

Duke rolls over Samford to move on

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Tricia Liston scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures for the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils as they routed the 15th-seeded Samford Bulldogs, 82-47, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Memorial Gymnasium.

St. Johns slips by Creighton in first round

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Nadirah McKenith's layup with 0.1 seconds left on the clock proved to be the difference as the third-seeded St. Johns Red Storm survived a scare, 69-67, from the upset-minded Creighton Blue Jays in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Lloyd Noble Center.

LSU rallies to take down San Diego State in first round

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - LaSondra Barrett scored 17 points and brought down 10 rebounds as the fifth-seeded LSU Lady Tigers stormed back to take down the 12th-seeded San Diego State Aztecs 64-56 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Pete Maravich Center.

Penn State tops UTEP to advance

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Maggie Lucas scored 23 points and Alex Bentley put in 21 to lead the fourth-seeded Penn State Lady Lions to a 85-77 win over the 13th-seeded Texas-El Paso Miners in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Pete Maravich Center.

Oklahoma takes care of Michigan

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Aaryn Ellenberg led five players in double figures with 28 points as the sixth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners toppled the 11th-seeded Michigan Wolverines 88-67 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - The nations leading scorer, Elena Delle Donne, poured in 39 points and brought down 11 rebounds to lead the third-seeded Delaware Blue Hens to a 73-42 blowout with over the 14th-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans and Jack Stephens Center.
