Baylor a unanimous preseason No. 1 in women's hoops

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Baylor will start the new women's college basketball season the same way last season ended, as the No. 1 team in the country.

Geno's idea is no slam dunk

So I was raising the baskets in our gym to get ready for a volleyball match, and I thought of Geno Auriemma’s chat with reporters when he tossed out the idea of lowering the rim in women’s basketball.

It’s not a new idea, and it’s not just about women dunking. It would be easier to score, and Auriemma and DePaul coach Doug Bruno (together two of the most respected coaches in the game) both think it would make the girls’ and women’s game much more entertaining.

Talent is plentiful at the Tallahassee Community College JUCO Jamboree

Seventeen junior colleges from Georgia, Alabama and Florida came to Tallahassee Community College for a one-day jamboree -- and 65 colleges and universities were there as well, looking for the next great junior college transfer.  Each junior college team played three games over a nine-hour stretch, testing both skill and stamina, and here's a list of some propects who caught my eye ...

Elite 80 Fall Festival uncovers hidden gems

TENNESSEE - It was a beautiful Sunday for a ride out to Jefferson City and Carson Newman University in the northeast corner of Tennessee for the championship tournament of Elite 80 Fall League. The 8 week league attacts dozens of top high school players from eastern Tennessee, Southern Kentucky and Southern Virginia.  After a full day of playoffs, a champion was crowned on Sunday when Team Wilson beat Team K-Swiss.  This event turned up some new faces and gave a second look at some familiar ones.

Brett Frank to lead Ole Miss program

Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Brett Frank has been named Ole Miss's acting women's basketball coach for the upcoming season.

Wiggins fired as Ole Miss head coach

OXFORD, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi announced today that women's basketball head coach Adrian  Wiggins will no longer serve as head coach and has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation continues over impermissible recruiting contacts and academic misconduct committed by members of his staff.
