Marie Burr announced her retirement Monday following a 26-year run at the
Burr compiled a 324-379 overall record guiding the Bears' program and led Brown to four Ivy League championships, including three straight from 1992-94. The Bears' most recent league crown came during the 2005-06 season.
Brown finished just 4-10 in the Ivy League this season, however, and went 10-18 overall.
"Although I am retiring from Brown Basketball, the student-athletes that I have coached will always be a part of my family," said Burr. "I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with quality people in every area of Brown University and have made great friends in the Rhode Island community."
"I am excited for my next leadership challenge. I realize this move will allow new energy into our basketball program to work with a first class team building toward Brown's seventh championship."
Burr, whose 1993-94 squad became the first Ivy League team to participate in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, also coached a pair of conference Players of the Year in Martina Jerant (1993) and Sarah Hayes (2006).
