VanDerveer earns 900th win

women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer joined an elite club on Wednesday by
securing win No. 900 of her career.

Chiney Ogwumike had 27 points and 13 rebounds as sixth-ranked Stanford cruised to an 83-59 victory over Florida Gulf Coast at the Hardwood Tournament For Hope.

VanDerveer became the fifth women's coach to win 900 games. She joined Pat Summitt, Sylvia Hatchell, C. Vivian Stringer and Jody Conradt. On the men's side, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim and Bob Knight have won 900 games.

The 60-year-old VanDerveer, who was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in 2011, has won a pair of NCAA championships with the Cardinal in 1990 and 1992.

She's been the coach at Stanford since the 1985-86 season and has reached ten Final Fours. Her run of five straight Final Four appearances was stopped this last season when Stanford was upset by Georgia in the Sweet 16..

VanDerveer's record is an astonishing 748-153 during her time at Stanford. Overall, she is 900-204, having started her head coaching career at Idaho (1978-80) and then going to Ohio State (1980-85).
